Who Can Join Sigma Nursing?
Sigma membership is by invitation. Chapters at accredited nursing programs invite students who meet academic criteria, and nurse leaders may apply directly.
Nursing students at Sigma Nursing chapter institutions may receive an invitation from their chapter. To be eligible, you must:
- Be enrolled in an accredited nursing program at an institution with a Sigma Nursing chapter
- Have completed at least half of the nursing curriculum and rank in the top 35% of your class (or have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)
- Meet academic integrity standards

Sigma Nursing welcomes master’s and doctoral students who:
- Are enrolled in graduate programs at accredited institutions of higher education
- Have completed at least a quarter of the nursing curriculum
- Have achieved academic excellence (at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale)
- Meet academic integrity standards
Already a registered nurse with at least a bachelor’s degree? You may qualify as a Nurse Leader instead.

Experienced nurses who have demonstrated achievement in nursing practice, education, or research may be eligible. This path is open to nursing professionals not previously inducted as students. Requirements include:
- Legal recognition to practice nursing in your country
- A minimum baccalaureate degree in nursing or the equivalent
- Demonstrated achievement through leadership, scholarship, or professional service
