Sigma Nursing's statement in response to the death of nurse Alex Pretti on 24 January
Published on 27 January 2026
Our global nursing community is profoundly heartbroken by the tragic and untimely loss of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, on 24 January in Minneapolis, Minnesota. By all accounts, Alex was a dedicated caregiver whose compassion and commitment to patient care touched countless lives.
His passing has sent deep waves of sorrow throughout our profession and beyond, reminding us of how deeply we feel each other’s losses.
As nurses, we understand the emotional and physical demands of our work — and we grieve not only as colleagues but as a global community united in care and compassion. In moments like this, when one of our own is lost far too soon, the weight of that loss is felt by nurses everywhere who share a common mission to serve and heal.
We join in heartfelt support for Alex’s family, friends, and all who knew him, holding them close in our thoughts during this unimaginably difficult time.
