Sigma Nursing launches initiative to provide free professional development to nurses
Published on 17 July 2025
INDIANAPOLIS—Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), with support from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, is proud to announce the launch of the Nurse Learning Exchange, a growing collection of high-quality, free nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) courses designed to support nurses and nursing students at every stage of their career.
Through this initiative, Sigma will collaborate with several other associations to create a shared, curated collection of courses, reducing the duplication and inefficiencies often found in other online educational offerings and expanding access to relevant, trusted content. These offerings cover widely applicable topics such as ethics, human trafficking, leadership succession planning, oral health equity, and more.
“We are deeply committed to supporting nurses not only in meeting today’s challenges, but also in preparing for the future of healthcare through lifelong learning and professional development,” said Sigma CEO Lucas M. Davis, MEd, CAE, ACC, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, ICE-CC. “We’re excited to support each nurse’s professional journey as they explore, learn, and grow through this offering.”
The course offerings provided in the Nurse Learning Exchange currently total just over 30 NCPD contact hours, and this number is expected to grow as more associations contribute their offerings. This free content is available to all nurses, at any stage in their career, and is only accessible now through April 2026.
“Nurses are uniquely positioned to transform both care delivery and health systems. The J&J Foundation is proud to continue its long-standing support of the nursing profession by supporting Sigma to reduce barriers in access to education opportunities for nurses,” said Michele Morgan, Director of Global Nursing Initiatives, Global Health Equity, Johnson & Johnson.
As nurses continue to face increasing demands and challenges in the workplace and beyond, the Nurse Learning Exchange helps bridge the gap between clinical practice and education, allowing nurses to access the complementary resources they need to thrive.
