Sigma Nursing is a global community built to recognize, connect, and support nurses across every specialty, career stage, and corner of the world. 

Since being founded as an honor society in 1922, we've recognized the extraordinary skill and commitment nurses demonstrate, whether they're at the bedside, in the classroom, or shaping how nursing is practiced. Today, Sigma Nursing gives back to those nurses who are moving global healthcare forward, helping them advance their careers, connect across borders, and create momentum for nursing.

When our organization began, its name included three Greek letters: Sigma Theta Tau. Each letter carried meaning to the founders, rooted in the ancient words for love, courage, and honor.

As our community grew across the globe, we simplified our name and became Sigma Nursing. Sigma, or Σ, means “the sum of.” Everything added together.

Because that is what our community is: the sum of the world’s extraordinary nurses doing their part to move world health forward.
